Delray Beach Historic Railway Station

Delray Beach, FL

The rehabilitation of the Delray Beach Historic Railway Station represents a careful balance between preservation and modernization. Originally constructed in 1927 and listed on both the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and local historic designations, the 7,343-square-foot depot is a rare cultural and architectural artifact. West and its team provided professional architectural design and historic documentation services to guide the project in compliance with preservation standards, ensuring the station’s original character remains intact while accommodating present-day needs.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION & PHASED RENEWAL

Envisioned as a two-phase renovation, the project first focuses on the structural stabilization and adaptive reuse of the depot. Phase 1 transforms the existing building into a functional mix of spaces: a 4,215-square-foot warehouse, 2,366 square feet of office and utility areas under air, and a 762-square-foot porte cochere that restores the station’s traditional character. Phase 2 will extend the effort to the surrounding site, enhancing the station’s setting and reinforcing its role as both a historic landmark and a civic resource. Together, the renovations breathe new life into an enduring symbol of Delray Beach’s heritage, ensuring it continues to serve the community for decades to come.
