Isla Saona Coast Guard Ops Center
Isla Saona, Dominican Republic
This remote operations center, designed and constructed for the Dominican Republic Marines, is a two-level coastal structure built entirely on stilts. The lower level includes fully equipped living quarters, featuring separate men’s and women’s dormitories with bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, and conference space—supporting both daily operations and extended stays. A spiral staircase leads to the upper level observatory, which provides expansive views for strategic monitoring.
ISLAND-BASED CONSTRUCTION OVERCOMES ACCESS LIMITS WITH SMART INFRASTRUCTURE

Built on a challenging, boat-access-only site near tourist areas, the project required careful logistics and enhanced safety protocols. All construction materials were transported by barge or boat from the Dominican Republic and the U.S. Infrastructure highlights include a reverse osmosis system that produces 1,300 gallons of potable water daily, stored in a 1,500-gallon cistern; an additional rainwater harvesting system; an above-ground septic system with drain field; and a backup generator for off-grid operation. The installation of lighting on the nearby pier further enhanced usability and safety of the facility.
