Gainesville Train Depot Renovation

Gainesville, FL

Built in 1860 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Historic Train Depot has been brought back to life through a meticulous rehabilitation that honors its storied past while meeting modern sustainability standards. Completed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and achieving LEED-Gold certification from the USGBC, the project revitalized the building’s core and shell with restored framing, floors, walls, ceilings, and finishes. Modern upgrades included new structural walls, utility connections, a fire sprinkler system, energy-efficient fixtures, roofing, and fresh paint—each thoughtfully integrated to preserve the depot’s historic character.

REVIVING A LANDMARK

The restoration went beyond the building’s structure, with craftsmen carefully repairing original hardware and masonry to maintain authenticity. Site improvements included reseeding disturbed areas after utility installation, ensuring the grounds reflect the same care as the building itself. Now complete, the project stands as a shining example of how historic preservation and sustainable construction can work hand-in-hand, securing the depot’s role as a cultural and architectural treasure for generations to come.
